Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Our Lord betrayer by Judas Iscariot in the Garden, accompanied by the Chief Priests, Pharisees, and Soldiers. As the works of this Spanish Painter are very scarce, and but little known in this country, it may be mentioned that he was born at Seville in 1528, and died in 1590. He studied for many years in Italy, with such success, "by an improvement in his taste, composition, and freedom of hand, as rendered him equal to the best of his own time, and superior to most of his contemporaries."--Pilkington. On the back of the picture is a note in Spanish, by Pedro del Pozo, at Seville, 28th May, 1782, stating, that this Original Picture by the famous Luys de Bargas, had been painted on hard wood of such weight, and for preservation, it was then, by a difficult and tedious process, successfully transferred to canvass (Louis de Vargas)|Our Lord betrayer by Judas Iscariot in the Garden, accompanied by the Chief Priests, Pharisees, and Soldiers.
