  • 1820.07.14/ maison de ventes : Bullock (William). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[An Italian View, probably a Composition; at least it is scarcely possible to conceive that Nature has united in many Spots so noble a union of all her beauties as are here lavishly displayed. The depth and grandeur of the massing on the left, the purity and air of the water, and distance on the right, afford the highest proofs that could be given of that masterly touch, which never forsook the realities of landscape, while it elevated them to the most delightful pitch at which the poetry of art could arrive. This picture is considered to be the finest production of this distinguished ornament of the English School (Wilson)|An Italian View, probably a Composition; at least it is scarcely possible to conceive that Nature has united in many Spots so noble a union of all her beauties as are here lavishly displayed. Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A ruined Tower and Waterfall; altogether this is an exquisite specimen of the Master; and there are bits of it never surpassed for truth and nature. The dark massing of rock is admirably relieved by the light and misty dash of spray, and the forms of the trees are peculiarly appropriate to the scene. Achef d'oeuvre (Berghem)|A ruined Tower and Waterfall; altogether this is an exquisite specimen of the Master; and there are bits of it never surpassed for truth and nature. • 1820.07.14/ maison de ventes : Bullock (William). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A Virgin and Child, called Lo Zingaro. A remarkable picture, by a master hardly known, except to connoisseurs and travellers. His history was an Italian protoype of the famous Blacksmith of Antwerp, and this is a curious specimen of the art, so early as the fifteenth century. Solario died in 1455. The Head of the Virgin has a fine expression, and, in the whole, we can trace the foundations laid for the magnificent productions of a hundred years later. From the collection of Napoleon (Andrea Solario)|A Virgin and Child, called Lo Zingaro. A remarkable picture, by a master hardly known, except to connoisseurs and travellers.
