  • 1829.01.22/ maison de ventes : Gernon (Michael). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Morning -- Robbers attacking Shepherds. -- The misty effect of early morning was perhaps never more skilfully displayed. Such is the illusion produced, tht the eye is almost deceived into a consciousness of being enabled by degrees to penetrate the thin vapoury veil, which is so beautifully gradual, that every object, according to its distance, seems more or less covered with it, giving those nearest the eye a moist and dewy appearance. The drawing of the picture is preserved in the Liber Veritatis; and etchings of the figure, by Claude (which are better designed than usual with him) still exist (Claude Lorraine)|Morning -- Robbers attacking Shepherds. -- The misty effect of early morning was perhaps never more skilfully displayed.
