An invaluable specimen of a favourite Artist, and usually called the "Sybil's Temple," from its representing the Scenery of Tivoli, its picturesque Ruins, &c. The Landscape is tastefully enriched with Cattle and Figures, in various groups, finely arranged, and drawn and coloured with great truth. Mr. Smith, in his "Catalogue Raisonée" of this Master's works, concludes a long and able description of this chef-d'oeuvre in these words: -- "This Picture was painted in the Artist's most accomplished period, and abounds with that refined taste which distinguishes most of his works." -- See Part V. page 54, No. 158 (Nicholas Berchem)|A Landscape, with Cattle and Figures.
