This Picture alone, might shew the noble Invention, luxuriant Fancy, and beautiful Colouring of that great Master, who by the Magic of his Art has almost made a new Creation. He interests us so much in this Picture, that we seem to lose the Representation in the Reality. The disdainful Anger of Apollo while he fixes the Ears on Midas, the stupid Looks of the latter in seeing his Punishment, and the placid Attention of Pan to his own Musick; the Disposition of the back Ground; the Harmony of the Whole -- all produce such a happy effect, that the Figures seem to start from the Canvas -- to live -- to breath -- to speak.
