  • 1813.06.17/ maison de ventes : Coxe (Peter). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[The Assumption of the Virgin. Three Figures representing the Holy Trinity, surrounded by Cherubim, occupy the upper part; the Virgin, her Head encircled with Stars, ascending to her Beatification with a Choir of Angels attending her, fills the lower space: and about the whole is that Splendour of Glory which it was the happy Talent of Murillo to bestow with so much effect. The Works of this Artist are becoming more than ever the envy of the World; and the avidity with which they are sought justifies the jealousy of Spain in securing them from Foreign possession, and treating the attempt to remove them from the Country a capital offence. This valuable Bijou is the highly finished Study for the large Picture (Murillo)|The Assumption of the Virgin. • 1813.06.17/ maison de ventes : Coxe (Peter). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Landscape, with Figures and Cattle. This is one of those simple yet grand Scenes in which Gainsborough so much excelled. A broken Foreground, extending gradually, and connecting with a mountainous distance, exhibits his masterly mode of Perspective Arrangement; a fine Stream winding through the centre, and Shepherd with his Flock on the Borders, give a liveliness of appearance to the Scene that is truly natural. The Pencilling is fine, free, and forcible, and given with vigorous decision; the Colouring clear and beautiful; and the whole Composition chaste and unaffected; being a faithful resemblance of Nature in her sequestered Scenes. • 1813.06.17/ maison de ventes : Coxe (Peter). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Landscape, and Peasants with a Team. This Picture, painted when the Master was in the plenitude of his Powers, exhibits one of the finest Specimens of English Landscape. The rich Woody Scenery, with the Groupe of Peasantry and Cattle in the Foreground, have the force and glow of Rembrandt. The light Silvery Clouds reflect a beautiful lustre on the Objects, and harmonize the parts with great felicity. The Characters are all true to Nature; and the rich tone, and unfading colours of this Picture, pronounce it one of the happiest Productions of this inimitable Artist's Pencil. It may be deemed unrivalled (Gainsborough)|Landscape, and Peasants with a Team.
