  • 1821.03.16/ maison de ventes : Stanley (George). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Interior of a Prison, with the story of Peter delivered by an Angel. Of all the Masters who have painted in this difficult department of the art, Steenwyck is allowed to be the most excellent. His delineations of the buildings are scientifically correct, his management of the Chiaroscuro magically illusive. If his fame were not so generally diffused and so fully established as to render encomium unnecessary, the present magnificent example of his powers would supply sufficient opportunity of expatiating on all those beauties by which it was acquired. The Picture however speaks for itself, and renders eulogium unnecessary even to the most inexperienced Spectator, as to the learned Connoisseur (Steenwyck)|Interior of a Prison, with the story of Peter delivered by an Angel. Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A Landscape of the most exquisite beauty, in which is introduced an historical subject; probably that of Job under his afflictions. The figures are in the Italian gusto, elegantly drawn, skilfully grouped, and splendidly coloured. The harmony of the Chiaroscuro may vie with that of Titian or Rembrandt, having all the mellowed gradations of the one, with the powerful and delusive effect of the other (Adam Elsheimer)|A Landscape of the most exquisite beauty, in which is introduced an historical subject; probably that of Job under his afflictions.
