  • 1829.05.29/ maison de ventes : Christie's. Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A Cattle Piece, the great chef-d'oeuvre of Mr. Ward; comprising animated portraits of a Bull, Cows, a Calf, Sheep, and Goats, in a landscape -- of gallery size This great work was designed in emulation of the famous bull Picture by P. Potter, in the National Museum at the Hague. It displays, in the pleasingly-varied attitudes, the Painter's great taste in composing; and in the drawing, his perfect knowledge of the structure of the several animals. The colouring is lively, but harmonius; and a careful attention to minute objects in the landscape, has not lessened the freedom of his hand. It may be truly regarded as a fine national trial-piece in painting (Ward)|A Cattle Piece, the great chef-d'oeuvre of Mr. Ward; comprising animated portraits of a Bull, Cows, a Calf, Sheep, and Goats, in a landscape -- of gallery size This great work was designed in emulation of the famous bull Picture by P.
