The Virgin, who sits in a very easy and noble attitude, under a canopy, seems to be the same favourite female figure as that in Lord Spencer's fine picture of Modesty, which is engraved by the ingenious Mr. Strange, and which picture was sold some years ago, at Mr. De Pesta's sale, for 1200l. the same size as this; the angel, which is one of the most graceful figures in painting, is similar in idea to the little boy, so much admired, with the pidgeons, in the altar-piece at Modena.
