  • 1790.06.09/ maison de ventes : Denew and Dawson. Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Leda. -- It must be confessed, that this Leda by Titian, as well as that by Corregio, now in the Possession of the King of Prussia, has suffered an Injury from some pious Hand, who has given a Cut to the Neck of the Swan, as also to the lower Part of Leda's Belly. These could be easily repaired in such a Manner as not to be discovered; but it has been deemed preferable to leave it as it is, as it does not spoil the Appearance of the Picture. The colouring of the Pictures is warm, and true Flesh. The Arms of Leda are rounded with peculiar Gracefulness; and the Sensibility is well expressed in the Head of Leda, and in the Eyes of the Swan. What Lightness and Delicacy in the Taffetas on which Leda is seated! -- In short, this valuable Picture is still in pretty good Condition, considering that since its Misfortune, it has passed thro' the Hands of many people concerned unaquainted with its Merit; and there are skilful Hands enough in England capable of repairing it perfectly, if required (Titian)|Leda. -- It must be confessed, that this Leda by Titian, as well as that by Corregio, now in the Possession of the King of Prussia, has suffered an Injury from some pious Hand, who has given a Cut to the Neck of the Swan, as also to the lower Part of Leda's Belly.
