  • 1822.06.20/ maison de ventes : Robins (John). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Alexander presenting his Mistress Campaspe to Apelles; a splendid and truly noble gallery picture. The works of this excellent modern Italian Artist are but little known in this country; and from the number of his finest works which decorate this spendid Mansion, it was evident he was invited over from Italy by the Earl of Tilney for the express purpose of embellishing its walls, and must have received from this Noble Patron of Arts, that liberal encouragement and protection, which called forth all his power of graphic art in the production of so many grand historical and other pictures, all equally rich and varied in composition, bold and masterly in drawing, and splendid in colour. It would be an injustice not to notice in a particular manner the magnificent frames which surround these pictures: they are also the work of a first-rate Carver and Artist, and are sculptured with all that playful variety of tasteful ornament, which not only delight the eye, but give splendour and magnificence to a room (Casali)|Alexander presenting his Mistress Campaspe to Apelles; a splendid and truly noble gallery picture.
