  • 1822.09.10/ maison de ventes : Robins (John). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[An Exquisite and Indubitable Portrait of the celebrated Laura. By the inscription at the Back it appears that this beautiful Picture was painted by Memmi, for his friend Petrarch, who mentions it in his Fifty-eighth Ode; and again in the Eighty-ninth. After the Death of Petrarch it was taken to Arquer, and in 1374, the Florentine Republic sent it to Bocaccio, who also notices it in his Epistles. After the Death of Bocaccio, it passed into the hands of Chilini, from whom it was bought -- The truth of these documents are completely attested by the beauty of the Picture, and render it highly valuable and interesting (Simone Memmi)|An Exquisite and Indubitable Portrait of the celebrated Laura.
