Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Adam and Eve, nearly the same with one burnt a few years ago in St. James's Palace, which formerly gave its name to the Adam and Eve Gallery at Whitehall, and from which Milton is said to have taken his famous description of our First Parents; this it is believed was the real picture; and there is another still remaining in Kensington Palace, but these three pictures differed in their back-grounds and the form of the Gothic Fountain, which is in them all. Mr. Evelyn has criticised this picture severely. Mr. Walpole tells us that this picture was once attributed to A.
