Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[The Virgin and Child, a Grand Altar Piece, on pannel with arched top; the Virgin, seated upon a Marble Tribune, (her left foot resting upon and projecting beyond a marble step beneath it,) is represented in a dignified attitude, and, as if occupied with reflecting on the important character of the Infant seated on her lap and fondly clinging to her neck, is looking downward in another direction with a peculiar character of modesty and sweetness; her hands just touch the limbs of the Infant to retain it in its position upon her knees: the drawing of the whole is in grand style, and the draperies are in a peculiar rich glow of colour. It appears from the following inscription upon it, that the Picture was painted for a votive offering Petrus Stapeggia Urbinas. ex. Voto. Facien. Curavit. F. M. P. E.
