  • 1829.03.25/ maison de ventes : Foster (Edward). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[The Embarkation. Time and ill usage has damaged this picture, which, however, still retains a powerful influence, and astonishes by the illusive aerial perspective. The composition is grand and classical, in the fore ground is represented the Embarkation of some pious Female, probably St. Ursula; and a group of Peasants are reposing near. On the left are the Ruins of a superb Temple, near which is lying a large vessel; on the right a fine Campagna extending as far as the eye can reach: the Sun sinking in the bosom of the calm Ocean, diffuses a briliancy on all the surrounding objects.
