  • 1832.05.24/ maison de ventes : Phillips (Harry). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[The Smugglers' return -- A rocky Sea Shore; on the summit of which is an ancient castle. A severe storm is approaching. Smugglers, who have evidently just returned, from the principal interest of the subject, are hauling up their boat among the rocks with all haste, while the wife and child of one of the smugglers are embracing him; a dog is running at speed, evidently denoting his delight at his master's return. A sailor, in the right angle, is securing some of the contraband packages from the storm, which tends to show that the cargo has been safely "run". This picture is engraved and justly ranks as one of the happiest productions (Loutherbourg)|The Smugglers' return -- A rocky Sea Shore; on the summit of which is an ancient castle.
