  • 1833.07.04/ maison de ventes : Stanley (George). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[Lady Jane Grey. This Portrait, so superior to the general style of Portraits of the day, bears evident marks of the Florentine School, and also of that of Raphael. Lucca Penni, during his stay in England, was much employed by the nobility, and it is on record that he painted the Portrait of this distinguished and unfortunate Lady. The beauty of her person and gracefulness of her manners are admirably preserved in this Picture, which is no less interesting as a work of art, than as a corroboration of the eulogiums pronounced on the beauty of the person represented. -- See Dallaway's Note to Walpole's Anecdotes (Lucca Penni)|Lady Jane Grey.
