This charming production was originally painted on panel, but was transferred to canvas with a portion of the original panel still left, by Pignard (Isaac Van Ostade)|A Dutch Village. At the door of an inn a horseman is refreshing his horse, and conversing with some peasants, and a group of travellers smoking and drinking. In the centre is a horseman, and a woman with a child in her arms is asking charity of him.
