This picture is from the Collection of Baron Lockhorst, and in Holland was always considered the chef-d'oeuvre of the master. It represents a rich apartment, on the right of which is seated a lady, sumptuously dressed, nursing an infant; a cavalier and lady have just entered the room, the latter is in the act of supplicating a blessing for the baby, while the former is leaning on the back of the lady's chair, and pointing to the child; in the distance is a servant bringing a chair; the room is beautifully decorated with tapestry, &c. The artist has here represented a Grand Procession of a Turkish Ambassador going to Court; such subjects were the delight of Vander Ulft, in which he could represent great numbers of figures, horses, &c., all of which objects he painted with the greatest ability. In this small picture may be counted several hundred figures, all correctly drawn, richly colored, and highly finished. On copper (Vander Ulft)|A View of the Palace and adjoining Buildings at Naples.
