Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A view of Whitehall, taken from about the spot where Richmond Terrace now stands, where the artist lived when in England. In this capital picture are exhibited the Whitehall, or Holbein Gate, the Banqueting House, Montagu House, and Spring Gardens; and through an opening are seen the Thames and St. Paul's; carriages and groups of figures are admirably introduced. This interesting picture was retained by the artist till his return to Venice, when it was purchased of him by Lord Crewe, then Mr. Crewe, about the year 1762, who afterwards exchanged it with Dr. Hinchliffe, Bishop of Peterborough, the father of the present proprietor (Canaletti)|A view of Whitehall, taken from about the spot where Richmond Terrace now stands, where the artist lived when in England. "L'altro de tre figure cioè della Madonna, che tiene in grembo il Bambino, gnudo e di San Gioseffo, stando a giaccere in una finestro." It is engraved by Sherwin (N. Poussin)|The Virgin seated under a portico with the infant in her lap, St. Joseph near her, reading; full of feeling and sweet character.
