  • 1836.07.02/ maison de ventes : Christie's. Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[La Chapelle de Charles Quint. This exquisite chef-d'oeuvre represents, in the centre, the Dead Christ Supported by the Virgin, with St. John and St. Joseph, and a landscape background: on the side doors are Christ Appearing to Mary, with the resurrection in the background; and the Virgin with the Infant on her knees, and St. Joseph seated near her, in a gothic apartment, with a rich drapery suspended behind them: the arched borders are ornamented with minute sacred subjects, exquisitely painted in chiaro scuro. This matchless picture was for a long time in the family of the Dukes of Burgundy; it constantly accompanied Charles V. in his campaigns, and was placed on the altar at mass. It was found in the cathedral at Burgos, by the Viscomte D'Armagnac, on the entry of the French army into that city in 1809 The following six Pictures are the Property of the General Viscomte D'Armagnac (J.
