Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[The stoning of St. Stephen: a group of numerous figures are stoning and observing the martyrdom of the saint, near the entrance of a Palace of noble architecture; other small groups are assembled in the galleries; on the left of the subject is a group of trees. This very important and unique qork was purchased of the Artist by the great Duke of Chandos, and placed at his noble seat Canons, from whence, in 1747, at the destruction of that mansion, it was purchased and removed to Bush-Hill, the residence of the late Proprietor. It will be found that this celebrated work has been alluded to by Evelyn, Walpole, Chauncet, Lysons, and Chuterbuck; it is in perfect preservation, and is 6 ft. by 4 ft. 6 in. wide, and is contained in a glazed case.
