It was exhibited in Spring Gardens in the year 1817, and is painted with all the skill and care of this admired and laborious Artist, now in Australia. The mellowing hand of time will increase its claim to rank with the celbrated work of the Dutch Artist (John Glover)|A Bull and Two Cows, the size of Life, taken from nature, at a Farm near Hampstead -- the Regent's Park and London in the distance -- canvass. This masterly Picture was painted in praiseworthy rivalry of the celebrated production of Paul Potter, the properity of the King of the Netherlands. These Pictures should not be considered as copies from Nicolo Poussin, as it is well authenticated that Stella was the intimate friend of Poussin, and assisted him in making duplicate sets of his so much admired Pictures of these Subjects. This set was no doubt painted immediately under the eye of Poussin, and is much to be admired for elegance of composition and fine drawing, and for a tone of colour -- by some preferred to that of Nicolo. The size, which is half that of Poussin's, is convenient for those who wish to exhibit the progress of these ceremonies together (Jaques Stella -- Born 1596, Died 1647)|The Seven Sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church, viz.: -- Baptism Confirmation The Eucharist Ordination Marriage Penance Extreme Unction -- each 2 Feet 10 Inches Wide. 1 Feet 10 Inches High.
