  • 1850.11.05/ maison de ventes : Foster (Edward). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A Marine View near the Dutch Coast. At a short distance is a man of war, the crew busily engaged in every part; two small boats filled with sailors are near, and a vessel in the distance; to the left, making sail, is a fishing boat with fisherman sic, one of their companions who assisted them off, still standing in the water; in the front is a boat, lying near the shore, and another boat a little way off; with two figures on the shallows. This picture represents a morning soon after the break of day, the sober grey tints so peculoiar to that hour pervading the whole atmosphere; a slight breeze before sun-rise increasing the ripple over the flat sandy shore: the happy choice of the objects, the surprising fidelity of the perspective, the transparency of the water, and the aerial truth leave nothing to be desired. This work is in the purest and most beautiful state. (Dubbels)|A Marine View near the Dutch Coast. • 1850.11.05/ maison de ventes : Foster (Edward). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[A Landscape. A warm evening at the end of summer, the various tints of the foliage announce the fall of the year; in the foreground are some sheep, and a peasant girl pointing out the road to a well-dressed traveller on horseback, who it may be supposed has arrived too late for the passage boat, which is seen at a distance filled with passengers: on the opposite side and edge of the river is a church and village; to the right, on a gentle eminence, is an old chateau; to the left pedestrians are passing on a road, shaded by forest trees, which overhang the stream, where a group of cows are watering. A brilliant sunny picture, in fine preservation. (A. Cuyp)|A Landscape. A range of broken rocky heights interlaced with trees, extends to the half distance; at the foot is road with travellers and muleteers, and some sheep watering in a pool; nearer the front is a magnificent group of forest trees, beneath which are scattered dock leaves, wild grass and brambles; to the left a stream of water breaks off over some rocks, and spreads itself in the front of the picture; in the middle distance is a fertile valley, with chateaux, beyond which mountains rise each above the other, until blending with the horizon, they are lost in the distance. • 1850.11.05/ maison de ventes : Foster (Edward). Vente de l'œuvre décrite comme [[An upright Landscape, time approaching sun-set. In the centre is a group of forest trees, the foliage agitated by the effect of a transient summer storm; beneath is a passage boat, lying at anchor; on the right, in the half distance, are the ruins of a castle; and in the foreground some peasants, with mules, asses, sheep and goats are waiting to cross the stream.
